First, narrow it down
Identify whether you have a Wunder-Bar hand gun or a Lancer fountain valve, and find the model. They do not all release their nozzles the same way.
What you're seeing
| Symptom | Possible cause | What to do next |
|---|---|---|
| Sticky nozzle only | Dried syrup at outlet | Remove approved parts; wash/sanitize. |
| Sticking button too | Gun seal/button issue | Clean exterior; request gun service. |
| Off taste after cleaning | Possible cleaner residue | Stop service; verify sanitation procedure. |
What to check
Start with clean hands and the correct supplies
Use sanitary gloves, a clean soft brush, potable water, and the mild cleaner and food-contact sanitizer approved for the exact dispenser. Follow product concentration and contact time. Never mix chemicals.
Turn off or secure the dispenser as its manual directs
On the referenced Lancer IBD 4500 dispenser, power is disconnected before nozzle cleaning to prevent accidental dispensing. Never remove tubing or internal pressure parts for a daily nozzle wash.
On the applicable Lancer valve, remove nozzle and diffuser
The referenced Lancer procedure describes twisting the nozzle counterclockwise and pulling down, then removing the diffuser. If your model does not match or the piece will not turn freely, stop and use its specific manual.
Wash off the sticky film
Rinse detached parts with warm potable water, use the approved mild cleaner and soft brush to wash the nozzle and diffuser, then rinse off cleaner as the model procedure specifies. Also wipe the splash panel, cup rest, and drip tray.
Sanitize using that model’s instructions
One Lancer IBD manual specifies immersing nozzle and diffuser for 15 minutes with its approved sanitizer, then air-drying without a post-sanitizer water rinse. Concentration and dwell time may differ by model and local rules; follow the equipment and sanitizer labels.
For a Wunder-Bar gun, clean approved removable parts only
Clean the nozzle and external drink-contact surfaces using Wunder-Bar’s model instructions. Do not soak the handle or spray liquid into the buttons and seals.
Reassemble and check the pour
Reinstall clean parts fully. Run the appropriate model’s verification/purge process and check the first pour. If a part sticks or the drink smells like cleaner, stop service; do not serve or taste it.
Why it happens
Daily surface cleaning prevents residue buildup, but it does not replace a full line sanitation program. Syrup lines and draft beer lines require their own schedules and procedures.
Need service?
Call if a nozzle is stuck, a valve leaks after reassembly, or any sign of chemical residue remains. Do not pry or improvise a soak of the complete bar gun.
